Between 2011 to 2016 Coro set the benchmark in the ACT for its level of performance, with inspired, critically acclaimed concerts. Now, Coro is returning to the concert halls of Canberra with a new, up-to-date approach to high level choral singing.

We are accepting expressions of interest from singers in all voice parts over the age of 16. Applications can be made by emailing us or by completing the form provided on the home page. Based on your level of experience we may ask you to audition. However, we reserve the right to invite singers to participate in Coro performances. We expect that there will be around 16 - 20 places for each concert. If you aren’t offered one of these it may be that we would love to have you sing in a different program in the future that might better suit your preferred vocal style.

If you’re interested in being involved but cannot join us for our 2019 concert, we will be looking at the program and set up for 2020 based on the responses we receive. So do please still drop us a line! Email us your expression of interest or complete the form on the homepage.

What can we offer?

  • The highest quality in performance. We are all about excellence;

  • The most exciting choice of choral music on offer in Canberra, from the Renaissance to the present day;

  • A professional environment of rehearsal and music-making, in which you will be an active part of the musical direction. We are looking for singers who won’t always need to be conducted. We are a community of singers and instrumentalists who share the lead between them;

  • A strictly targeted rehearsal timetable, modelled on the European festival chorus tradition of rehearsals. This ensures that you will still have time to pursue other interests and existing musical commitments.

  • Opportunities for additional events with small groups and specialist repertoire. Whether your interest is Tudor music, madrigals, jazz or the ultra-modern, this is the ensemble for you;

  • If your primary source of income is through music, in some cases payment may be provided. And if you’re an excellent chorister but rely on an income through another source, here’s your chance to sing with the best in town – you never know what opportunities might come your way!

Ideally singers would be paid for each engagement, but we need to work our way there. Priority will be given to singers from whom music is a principal source of income. If it is a secondary source of income, there may be scope to offer a smaller fee.
